Why choose After-School Care at CompaNanny?

At CompaNanny’s After-School Care (in Dutch: BSO), we provide childcare for primary school children aged 4 to 12: on school day afternoons, on study days and during school holidays. Our BSO is a welcoming and stimulating place where your child can relax after a long day at school and gain new experiences.

Whether your child prefers sports or cooking, recharges with a book or with a ball, enjoys playing alone or with friends, or likes to be challenged with a creative or technical activity: there is always something to do at our BSO that matches your child’s age, needs and interests. Together with the children, our Childcare Professionals create a safe environment where each child can be themselves and develop at their own pace, in their own way.

We focus on discovering talents, independence, healthy nutrition, outdoor play and connection with nature. Our pedagogical vision forms the foundation of everything we do, based on our belief: The most beautiful thing a child can become is who they are.

“At our After-School Care, you see children grow in a different way than at school. Here, there is more space for individuality and social development, and they go on a journey of discovery to find out who they are and what their talents are. Being able to contribute to children’s self-confidence, resilience and independence is what makes this work so rewarding for me!”

What a day at our After-School Care looks like

A good start

Every afternoon, our Childcare Professionals pick up your child safely from school, either on foot or using our BSO bus. On study days and during school holidays, you bring your child to the BSO yourself. Upon arrival, we check in with your child to see how they are doing, what is on their mind, and what they feel like doing that afternoon / day.

Let’s go outside

Outdoor play is a regular part of our program. In addition to our own garden, we like to make use of the surrounding area, such as nearby football fields or an indoor sports hall. Both indoors and outdoors, there is room for challenging play, where your child can try new things and explore their own limits.

Time for a snack

Healthy nutrition is important for proper growth. That is why we offer mainly healthy meals and snacks. After being picked up from school, we eat crackers and raw vegetables together. On study days and during school holidays, we have a healthy lunch in the afternoon.

Time to explore

Throughout the day at our After-School Care, there is plenty of time to relax, play freely, or join in a variety of activities. Often, children have more opportunities at the BSO than at home, thanks to the wide range of play materials, the amount of space, and the presence of other children and Childcare Professionals. Your child can let their creativity and imagination run free and discover where their interests and talents lie.

Time for another snack

Playing and discovering new things takes a lot of energy. That is why there is a snack time at the end of the afternoon for a little boost. At the BSO, we also enjoy cooking and baking healthy treats together.

Time to say goodbye

After snack time, there is still time to play freely indoors or outdoors. Most of our locations close at 6:30 PM. When you pick up your child, the Childcare Professionals and your child will tell you all about their afternoon / day at the BSO.

Children have a say

At our After-School Care, we work with a consistent daily rhythm in broad terms. A clear rhythm provides, especially for younger children, a sense of structure, trust and calm. As your child grows older and their sense of autonomy becomes more important, they are given more freedom within this structure.

The way the afternoon / day is organised at the BSO is shaped as much as possible by the children’s own needs and ideas, too. Freedom of choice and child participation play an important role in this. Children are encouraged to think along and help make decisions about all kinds of things, such as new play materials, the activity programme and the rules. In this way, your child practises skills that they will need later in society, in a safe environment.

A trusted partner in parenting

Parenting is something we do together. We work closely with parents and are always happy to share our knowledge and experience with you.

Our team at the After-School Care

Our people make the difference. A team of engaged and experienced Childcare Professionals is ready each afternoon to ensure that your child feels at home and has the space to be themselves and explore the world. For you as a parent, they are your first point of contact. Together with the Branch Management, they form a strong team, supported by, among others, our Childcare Specialists and Regional Quality Coaches.

At our after-school care, we have a mix of Childcare Professionals with a (social) pedagogical background and those with a sports education, such as PABO, ALO or CIOS. They are both thinkers and doers, each bringing their own talents. This provides a rich variety of experiences, activities and guidance, and ensures diversity in role models, who play a valuable role in your child’s life.

Parenting together

As a parent, you often know better than anyone what your child’s needs, qualities and interests are. At the same time, each stage brings new challenges, especially during those formative years at primary school, which sometimes lead to questions about your toddler’s development and parenting.

That is why, at CompaNanny, we aim to work closely with you and share our knowledge and experience in parenting and child development with as many parents as possible. We are here not only for your child, but for you as well. We are happy to think along with you and align as much as possible with your wishes and needs, just as we do for your toddler.

“I really feel that the Childcare Professionals are genuinely involved with my children. During handovers, they share personal details about them and provide us as parents with valuable tips.”
